Our Core Values
A God-Centered World View
John 17:1 – Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You."
While most people believe the world revolves around man, the Bible teaches that God created us for His glory and that our primary purpose in life is to glorify Him—to honor Him and magnify His brilliant attributes in every sphere of life. We also acknowledge the sovereignty of God over every aspect of life—that all events of life happen according to the will and plan of God.
The Authority of Scripture
2 Timothy 3:16 – All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable...
In an age in which the concept of absolute truth is often rejected, we hold up the Bible as our only authority for truth and practice. Therefore the Sunday morning preaching and everything we do during the week are based upon the Bible and the truth it contains.
The Doctrines of Grace.
Ephesians 2:8-10 – For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
The salvation of individuals is initiated by and is entirely a gracious work of God. Even those aspects of salvation in which we actively participate, such as faith and repentance, are gifts of God.
Roles Reflecting the Trinity.
1 Corinthians 11:3 – But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
God has given role relationships based on the interaction between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Christ is head of the universal church, and the church as His bride is to submit to Him. To govern the local church, God has given elders. In the family, husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the church, and wives are to respect their husbands. Parents, fathers taking the lead, are to raise their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, and children are to honor their parents. God also gives the gift of singleness and singles have a significant role in God's family.
Christ-Exalting Worship.
Matthew 14:33 – They worshiped Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God!"
God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are the proper objects of our worship. Therefore, we seek to have a worship service in which the songs, prayers, sacraments, and special elements are directed toward God and the teaching directs people to God.
Unified Fellowship
Philippians 2:1 -2 – Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
The Christian life is not meant to be lived in isolation from other believers but rather in the fellowship of a community of believers. Because we are united with Christ we are united with each other. We promote community at CBC through a network of small groups which meet throughout the area.
Every-Believer Ministry
1 Peter 4:10 – As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
The Holy Spirit has given all believers spiritual gifts to be used for the building up of the Body of Christ. Therefore, the vocational pastors do not minister while others watch but rather the pastors, elders, and other leaders equip all members of the church body to minister to one another in the strength which God provides.
Discipleship for Maturity
Ephesians 4:12-13 – for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.
To facilitate life-long learning and growth in holiness and Christlikeness via God’s ordained authority of the family, we have established “Family Discipleship” which offers family worship and devotion, systematic doctrinal training, reading through the Bible, and Scripture memorization for all major Biblical teachings.
Spirit-Empowered Evangelism
Acts 1:8 – "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
At CBC, we equip people to share the gospel by word and deed, in the power of the Holy Spirit, with extended family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, fellow students, and acquaintances.
Dependent Prayer
1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Pray without ceasing.
Recognizing that God does not need anything from us and that we are completely dependent on His grace for any good thing in our lives, we cry out to God in dependent prayer for Him to build His church and to build holiness in His people.
Christian Liberty
Galatians 5:13 - For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Christian Liberty is the freedom Christians have in Christ from sin and its power so that they might obey God in all things through the power of the Holy Spirit without complexity. Each Christian must discern how to live in matters not specifically defined by God ("My List" & "Your List") and every Christian must obey God's law ("His List"). We are not to impose our list upon one another, but we are to encourage and hold one another accountable concerning "His List." While we are to enjoy our Christian Liberty, we must do so without harming our weaker brothers and our testimony to the lost.
